Portucala - Glistrida - Cretan herbs

Updated: May 17, 2021

For gourmets, portulaca is a wonderful appetizer that can be used in a variety of ways. It tastes salty and slightly sour, when it is raw and boiled it tastes like herbs. Here in Crete and spaecially in Chania, we have plenty of portulaca and we call it andrákla (αντράκλα) or glistrída (γλιστρίδα), we use it mostly for our salads. Our Chefs love to use the leaves and the stems with feta cheese, tomato, onion, garlic, oregano, and olive oil to make our Cretan traditional salad. A portion of portulaca meets the daily needs of vitamin E and glutathione - a powerful antioxidant. We usually pick it up in nature and also we find it near the sea. At Cook4you.gr we use it in all Cretan salads or we offer it as a small appetizer for its special taste that will be unforgettable. Choose one of our menus and let our Chefs take you on a journey through the wonderful taste of glistrida .....
